The true sign that summer concert season is officially upon is when the first show arrives at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. This year kicked off with Sugarland on their Incredible Machine Tour. The Grammy award winning duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush brought their high energy country-pop to the sold out crowd.

2009

2009 was my busiest year to date as far as concert photography goes. I tried to shoot as many shows as possible while keeping my sanity – not the easiest feat. It started out with shooting Metallica and ended with shooting KISS, not bad bookends if I do say so myself. There were a lot of memorable shows in between as well including U2, Green Day, Pink, Aerosmith, No Doubt, Blink-182, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails and Janes Addiction. I’m not sure that I’ll be able to compete with the number of shows I shot in 2009 but here’s to 2010.

Pink!

There aren’t a lot of “pop” stars that I like, however, Pink transcends all of the stereotypes associated with the “pop star” label. She’s amazingly talented and she is not afraid to be honest, speak her mind, and stand behind the things she believes in – not to mention she kind of kicks ass. Her latest live show was a spectacle for the eyes and the ears with it’s Carnival theme. Was quite a pleasure to shoot this one!

KISS

KISS was back in town for their 35th anniversary tour. My first memories of KISS was when I was very young and seeing posters of them on my uncle’s wall in full make up and being petrified…kind of cool that 30 years later they’re still around and that I got to shoot them in their make up. The U2 2009 Tour features the most amazing staging I’ve ever seen. When it took up residence on the New England Patriots field it dwarfed it making the field look my backyard. The 60K plus fans showed up early for what would probably be a once in a lifetime experience with a band that is undoubtedly one of the world’s favorites. Photographers were positioned behind the general admission pit on the floor for this shoot. Being a huge Patriots fan and a season ticket holder I was able to look up from the field and see what I might look like in my seats to Tom Brady, and as you may have guessed, I look like a little tiny speck, but definitely an excited speck.
